Hǎo Jiǔ Bú Jiàn
Y'all haven't heard from me here for a while, I know. It has (thankfully) been a really busy time. Among paintings, websites and other creative projects, I took on the illustrious task of growing a beard this fall.
While in the company of my bearded brethren of Citizens Artist Collective (Nick and Titus) it was only a matter of time before their grooming choices rubbed off on me. I've always admired a nice, full beard (my father always sported one when I was growing up). So I took a stab at it.
After three months I actually had some semblance of a decent beard. The photo presented here is after about a month's time. Much to my partner's chagrin, I received enough compliments early on to encourage the continued growth and grooming of the beard.
However, on the evening of February first I came to the conclusion that it really didn't suit me and proceeded to take it off with the clippers—which now could use a good sharpening, that frikken thing was like steel wool. Had it been softer, I might have liked to keep it a little longer.
Of course, it didn't all come off at once. First it became a goatee with a sort of inverse chops. As I whittled away at it, it slowly took the shape of a smaller goatee, a fu-man-chu, and other un-named topiarical formations before all evidence was cleaned from my face.
As I witnessed its evolutionary progression, the trimmings started to take shape as they fell into the sink. The result? My goatee has been scuplted into a cube, using an acrylic fixative to mold and preserve its shape. The sculpture has been titled, "Haircube".
To you, I offer this on eBay. Bidding starts today at just $10 and ends February 17th, 2012.
I encourage everyone to bid on this unqiue item. There won't be another one like it.
Well... not for another four months, at least.
