Fourteen Hills

Fourteen Hills Cover: Crow

One of my latest paintings, "Crow: 3rd Heaven," will be appearing on the cover of the next issue of Fourteen Hills, San Francisco State University's literary publication.

How totally cool is that?

The piece as it is presented on the cover is unfinished, which I really like. I enjoy sharing the process as much as the finished product when it comes to my paintings. Each stage (immediately following a burning, most often) produces a presentable and unique image.

I try to capture the various stages with photographs of the works and share them with folks on my Facebook Page. How wonderful to be afforded the opportunity to share this one with the readership of 14 Hills!

At the time of this writing, I still have not completed the painting. There's a bit of work to be done before it is presented next month at the release party for issue 16.2 in San Francisco. Limited edition, archival pigment prints will be available for purchase. I'll be sure to let y'all know the details as they come.

Some of you are already familiar with this painting. It is the same painting that is featured in my promotional video Introductions. What you see presented on the cover is the state the painting was in after the applied fire that was shot for the video.

Its appearance has since changed with more painting and applied firings. But the essence of the piece, which is visible in this printing, remains. It is fundamentally the same painting, yet totally different—now further along in its journey of evolution. And it will continue to unfold before being displayed in its completed, realized state in May.

The release party for the publication will be on Friday, May 21st at the San Francisco Motorcycle Club, 7:00 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. If you are in San Francisco that night, please join us! It should prove to be one heck of a good time.

Check out the details on the Facebook Event Page. facebook.png

As for the book itself: I strongly encourage you to pick one up online at their website. I'll be sending out another brief announcement once it is printed and available for purchase.

Cheers!

PS. I need to send a special Thank You to Matthew Clark Davison, for it was his generous actions that made this opportunity possible.
