Creative Face

This is an ongoing project. Portraits of painters, photographers, writers, musicians, sculptors, designers... Creative faces of all variety.
People naturally become curious about an artist when they see or hear their work. These portraits are an attempt to further embellish that curiosity and share a deeper glimpse into the artists. To present a side that I see in them, in their work.
Recently, a visitor to my studio said that while viewing the portraits hanging on the wall, she wonders what super power each of the subjects has.
I liked that very much.
The Medium
The pieces combine mediums and techniques in a relatively unqiue way (I think). It is often difficult for the viewer to discern whether they are paintings, drawings or photographs. In fact, they are all of these combined.
The process begins with a photograph and a thick piece of douglas fir. The square area on the wood is plaster I have applied, in which I impregnate a pale photographic image (a technique of my own discovery through experimentation). There is no paper, no chemical process. The result is a dull, lifeless ghost of an image. From there, I try to bring it to life, drawing with charcoal, ink and paint.
The Book
A book is scheduled for printing in the Autumn of 2012. It will present the individual artists' portraits (measuring 11"x12", the actual size of the majority of the originals) accompanied by their name, location, title, web address, and a short bio of sorts.
Kickstarter
There will be a Kickstarter for this book. Please check back for details or follow me on Facebook or Twitter to catch the announcement when it is made.
