Am I Really Going To Do This?
The micro-blogging world of Facebook and Twitter are one thing. But to deliberately veer from the safety of socially accepted sentence fragments, poor grammar and missing punctuation... I mean, this opens me up to another world of criticism. Not only can people say that my paintings blow, but with this they will also come to discover that I'm not especially bright, my thoughts and experiences not that unique.
Which reveals the question, "Just how self-indulgent are you going to get?" Self-portraits are not out of the norm for me as a painter and casual photographer. Now I'm going to actually write about myself? And, furthermore, publish it online? Please return your tray tables and seats to their lowered and unlocked positions. This may be a dull ride.
Fortunately, I have a very small audience.
Let's hope that this first entry (and perhaps last) serves as a matrix to avoid the ego spotlight and just use this as a platform upon which to present to you different experiences I have related to the art world as I see and experience it. Though likely adhering only loosely to this subject, I would like to share with you galleries that I most enjoy, artists I most admire, events that might inspire, public art I stumble upon, and some of my own images here and there.
On the related and aforementioned note: Facebook. Believe it or not, I invest a considerable amount of thought into my Facebook postings in general. It is my interest to entertain there. If you are a Friend of mine, you already know that I extract a great deal of entertainment from it myself. Along with painting, I try to provoke thought with some of my posts as well -- hopefully without getting carried away with my social and political views. It is a window perpetually open and engaged on my computer screen. It can seem as if that's all I do all day though the direction of my attention there is intermittent.
And Twitter. Twitter is just a marketing tool to me. Though I suppose it could serve the same purpose as graffiti and I could push my own agenda. Hooray propaganda. But then, I guess that's what marketing really is, in'nt it? Or at least, what it can be, and is commonly, reduced to.
Though I have some basic writing skills, I'm out of practice. Also, bear in mind that have no education nor do I have an editor. So we'll just see how this goes, won't we?
